School for Business and Finance
Pencader Charter High School for Business and Finance was founded in 2006 and is located on the banks of the Delaware River in New Castle, Delaware. In three years, the school has gained a reputation for excellence in business education. Pencader not only prepares students for the rigors of postsecondary education, but more importantly equips students with the skills they need to be competitive in today's workforce.
As part of the focus on business education, Pencader is an active participant in, and advocate of, the Business Professionals of America (BPA) organization. The school's local chapter is 90 members strong, the current State Chapter of the Year, and Mr. Scott Green the chapter Advisor, was selected as the State Advisor of the Year. The school is also proud of students Shannon Chinn for being elected as a State Officer, and Brian Kelleher for being elected as a National Officer. These students are true leaders among their peers and are gaining experiences that will benefit them as they continue their education and enter the workforce.
Each fall, all students at Pencader participate in the school-wide, local BPA Competition. Winners from the local competition qualify to move on to the State Competition held in February. Last year, 30 students placed in the state level competition and were qualified to attend the National Competition.
At the school level competition, students select a project to work on during the first semester, and at the end of the semester present their projects to panels of judges that includes teachers, administration, and professionals from the business community. This year, students in the Freshman through Senior classes qualified at the school competition to move on to the State Competition in events including: Video Production, Presentation Management, Economic Research, Website Design, Small Business Management, and Global Marketing.
The BPA competition at each level - local, state, and national - gives students the opportunity to develop problem solving, project management, and teamwork skills that they can use in the real world. Pencader Charter High School is proud to be able to participate in this valuable competition.
